Nemacolin Woodlands Resort 10/12-14/10

On 3,000 mountain acres of the Laurel Highlands in western Pennsylvania, NEMACOLIN WOODLANDS RESORT is one of North America's premier resort destinations. The Chateau Lafayette is one of the outstanding resorts located at Nemacolin Woodlands. With 124 elegant rooms designed to replicate the famous Ritz Paris in France, guestrooms come with vaulted ceilings and crystal chandeliers. This is the place to experience the beauty of fall foliage and the Laurel Highlands!

Day 1 – Today we travel to the beautiful region of the Laurel Highlands. There will be stops along the way and lunch on your own. In 1987, Joseph A Hardy, III, founder of the 84 Lumber Company purchased the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. As you pass through the gates to Nemacolin, you will enter into the world of excellence in resort lodging. The Chateau Lafayette, your home for the next 2 evenings, is elegant with its’ crystal chandeliers, elegant furnishings and a collection of original art. Many shopping options are available at the resort’s Heritage Court Shoppes, located within Nemacolin’s main Chateau Lafayette and Lodge building. With storefronts designed as historical buildings located along Route 40 in Western Pennsylvania, it is a whimsical experience with many shopping options! For dinner this evening you will enjoy the wonderful offerings of the resorts’ chief in a private dinning room. (D)

Day 2 – Your day starts with an included breakfast. After breakfast you board your motor coach for a short driving tour of the Nemacolin grounds. Later depart the resort for some local exploring. Enjoy a delicious lunch in a Victorian atmosphere at Caileigh’s. Experience one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s wonderful homes, Kentuck Knob. Nestled high in the western Pennsylvania Mountains, Wright was 86 years old when he designed the house and it would be one of the last homes to be completed by him. After your visit, return to the resort for a short rest and then take a walking art tour of the Resort. Consisting of nearly 1,000 individual pieces and valued at over $45 million, the Hardy family Art Collection graces all aspects of the resort - from the common areas to the Presidential Suite. The remainder of the afternoon and evening will be yours to enjoy all the amenities of Nemacolin. Dinner is included. (B, L, D)

Day 3 – Enjoy a breakfast in tour before having to say good-bye to the beautiful Chateau Lafayette. Your first stop will be at Ohiopyle Falls. Have your camera ready as you view the falls from the overlook platforms! After your stop continue onto Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater. One of his most widely acclaimed works, the house, which was designed in 1935, rises above a waterfall and exemplifies Wright’s concept of harmonious union of art and nature. You will have a docent lead you through this unique house. Lunch will be on your own at the Café at Fallingwater. After lunch you will start for home with memories of gracious living and spectacular homes in Western Pennsylvania.
