We now accept credit cards for day trips. Approximately ten days before your day trip, we will send you a confirmation letter with your pick up/drop-off time and location. Please consult the registration forms below for more information. As with all of our tours, spots are filled on a first come, first served basis. If you are interested in a tour, please make your reservation as soon as possible even if the Day Trip is months away. Ride the Rails in Kentucky                  Wednesday, September 6        Cincinnati Departure  WAITLIST

Embark on a great Railroad and Museum adventure with JOY!  We will depart for the “Bluegrass State” in the morning.  Our destination is the Bluegrass Railroad Museum located in Versailles, KY in a beautifully restored train depot.  The museum showcases railroad history with rare train artifacts such as an original station master’s desk, a watchman’s shanty, rail tracks dating back to 1831 and an authentic, working telegraph.  Board a train for a 90-min. ride through the Kentucky countryside, passing two beautiful horse farms and traveling along the palisades of the Kentucky River.  Descend almost 300’ through limestone cuts right to the edge of the river where you’ll see a rail bridge built in 1889 (the train will stop here for pictures), before heading back to the depot.  Lunch will be included at a local restaurant serving delicious hot or cold sandwiches, salad, a variety of side items and a tasty dessert.
Derby Darlings & Champions         Wednesday, Sept 27          Cincinnati & Dayton Departures   $109
Spend the afternoon with Champions!  Today we will be visiting “Old Friends” Thoroughbred Retirement Farm.  The farm houses more than 150 retired racing horses, including 1997 Derby & Preakness winner, Silver Charm (considered one of the most beautiful stallions in the world) and Riva Way, grandson of 1973 Triple Crown winner Secretariat.  After lunch at Cracker Barrel, depart for Taylor Made Farm to meet California Chrome (subject to his health/well-being), North America’s all-time leading money winner at $14,752,650!  California Chrome (2014 Kentucky Derby & Preakness Winner) was just retired this year and is now living the life of leisure, spending his days nibbling grass, mating with mares (stud fee is a cool $40,000), and greeting his fans.  During your tour, you will also get to see the Stud House, meet the Mares, and tour the Birthing Area (keep an eye out for some fouls)!
Note: This will be a guided walking tour on grass with possible uneven ground.

Sophie's Secret!               Thursday, Oct 12                           Cincinnati & Dayton Departures    $94
Uncover secrets with JOY in Columbus!  Your first stop will be the “Herb Capital” of Ohio, in Gahanna.  At the Herb Farm, learn the secret to growing a perfect herb garden and easy ways to enhance everyday recipes & create your own culinary creations of herbal-infused vinegars, oils, syrups or tea.   Lunch will be on your own at the MCL Cafeteria.  After luncheon, travel a short distance to the Kelton House & Museum, a stop along the Underground Railroad.  Sophie Kelton, first lady of the house, welcomes her visitor’s as if it were 1860 and will lead the group on a tour of her home.  Here you will meet Sophie and learn her secret... but she will only share once she is assured that you are sympathetic to the cause.  On the tour you will learn about the house and Kelton family history, as well as what life was like in the late 19th Century.  The tour ends in the Carriage House, where afternoon tea awaits, including finger sandwiches and Strawberry Trifle with Sophie.  Then return home guarding the secrets you have learned today.
An Autumn Afternoon in Nashville, IN               Thursday, Oct. 26        Cincinnati Departure    $75
Come along with JOY for a relaxing Autumn Afternoon in “Little Nashville”, an historic artists’ colony nestled in picturesque Brown County, IN.  Upon arrival you will enjoy a wonderful buffet at the Brown County Inn.  After lunch, you can explore this quaint village at your own pace.  Visit one of the hundreds of unique craft, specialty & antique shops that line the streets.  This is a great place to stock up on holiday gifts.  In the many shops you can find original watercolor paintings, sculptures, toys from yesterday, stained glass art, solid wood furniture, wood carvings, hand-blown glass, custom jewelry, custom/unique clothing and much more.  Don’t forget to stop and take in the beautiful fall foliage that will be on full display!

Upon arrival in Nashville, you will go on a scenic drive through the Brown County State Park, taking in the magnificent display of fall colors with narration and Q&A from an onboard Naturalist.  Then enjoy a buffet lunch at the Abe Martin Lodge, before heading in to town for free time to explore this quaint village at your own pace.
A Derby Dinner Playhouse Mystery                Wednesday, Nov. 8       Cincinnati Departure   $94     
Travel with JOY for a fun filled day in Clarksville, Indiana at The Derby Dinner Playhouse. Here you will enjoy a mystery play filled with trickery & deception, along with a wonderful buffet luncheon with their signature carrot cake dessert.  What an intriguing way to spend the day!  Don’t Miss It!

Come along with JOY on a Christmas journey through the past and present!   Depart this morning for Indianapolis, where our first stop will be the Indiana Historical Society.  Here you will tour the Festival of Trees, over 100 Christmas trees each decorated by a local group or business based on a specific theme that they have chosen.  The imagination and detail is exquisite!  Feel free to explore the rest of the exhibits too.  There are living history rooms and a Cole Porter room with live entertainment and seating (you can even make song requests!).  Lunch will be at famous Shapiro’s Deli, a family owned kosher deli since 1905.  After lunch, we will travel to the home of the 23rd President (the only one from Indiana), Benjamin Harrison.  He was born and raised in the Tri-State area and loved Christmas.  In fact, he was the first President to put up a Christmas tree at the White House.  You will see the house decorated just as they did back in the late 1800s, many of the decorations and furniture are original to the family.  Later this afternoon you will have some time for Christmas shopping before heading home.
