Day 1: Head out this morning for Chicago, “ The Windy City”, to experience the beauty of it’s Art and Architecture. You will have a comfort stop and a stop for lunch on your own before arriving at your hotel, the famous Palmer House. This award-winning hotel is a member of Historic Hotels of America® and one of the most well known in Chicago. This evening, you will enjoy dinner at The Lockwood, located in the extravagant lobby of the hotel. Make sure you try their brownie dessert. Originated in the Palmer House pastry kitchen in 1893, for the Columbian Exposition World’s Fair, Bertha Palmer charged the pastry chef to create something new and ta-dah the 1st brownie was made! After dinner, the evening is yours to enjoy the hotel or venture into the city. (D) The Palmer House
Day 2: Enjoy a buffet breakfast at the hotel before departing for The Art Institute of Chicago for a docent led tour of the Gallery. You will also have some time to explore on your own. Founded in 1879, it is one of the oldest and largest art museums in the United States. Showcasing over 5,000 years of creativity in over one million square feet, the Art Institute offers an entire world of art for you to explore! From their world-renowned French Impressionist collection to American art favorites like Grant Wood's American Gothic and from ancient treasures from across the globe to modern masterpieces by Dalí, Matisse, and Picasso or masterpieces by Monet, Degas and van Gogh. There is something for everyone. Lunch will be on your own at any one of the many restaurants located within walking distance of the Art Institute. This afternoon, board Chicago’s First Lady for an Architecture River Cruise, highlighting the iconic architecture of Chicago as you learn the history of over 50 buildings. There will be several stops along the way for photo ops! After the tour, head back to the hotel to rest and freshen up for a trip to Navy Pier. You will be on your own to explore the many venues offered at the Pier and to have dinner on your own. (B) The Palmer House
Day 3: Breakfast at Freshii, located in the hotel, is included this morning. Then depart for Oak Park, IL to tour Frank Lloyd Wright’s Home and Studio. Frank Lloyd Wright used his first home to experiment with design concepts that contain the seeds of his architectural philosophy. In his adjacent studio, Wright and his associates developed a new American architecture - the Prairie style. Get insights into Wright's family life and architectural career as you tour the interior of this historic home. After touring his home and studio, you will be taken on a guided walking tour of the Frank Lloyd Wright Historic Neighborhood. Oak Park is home to the world's largest collection of Wright-designed buildings. Discover the development of Wright's style between 1889 and 1909, and trace the evolution of American residential architecture. Afterwards, you will board the motor coach to begin your journey home.
